Next Step Program

Are you looking to find stability, purpose, and acceptance in your life?  The Next Step Program might be the next step for you.

The Salvation Army’s Next Steps Program, at the Centre of Hope in Abbotsford, has been designed to provide safe, affordable, secure housing for men.   Residents accepted into the program may stay 6 to 12 months and are part of community living in one of three pods (single room with shared kitchen and bathroom).   The residents come from all spectrums of society. They want to move forward and make significant changes in their life. They may be homeless or at risk of homelessness; completing an addictions recovery program; needing support due to emotional or mental health issues; struggling with interpersonal or societal issues; integrating into society after incarceration; unemployment or unemployable and wanting to learn new skills.

We connect with residents and walk with them in their journey.

The program offers a holistic approach – practical, emotional, social, financial and spiritual – which is tailored to the needs and goals of each resident with the support of the Program Advisor, whom they meet with one-on-one as well as in group settings.  Residents must attend a life skills group and an AA meeting on site each week.   Residents are encouraged to get involved in other groups in the community if suitable.

There are 3 living pods that can house a total of 14 single men.  Each living pod includes:

  • Private single bedroom with bed, wardrobe, desk and side table.
  • Full functioning shared kitchen
  • 3 piece shared bathroom that also includes a washing machine and dryer.

What do we expect from our residents?

We expect our residents to be and stay free of any alcohol or drugs, keep their living space clean, be open to change and respectful to staff, volunteers and fellow residents and guests, be ready for new and exciting things in his life that he will work towards.
